MASTER PROJECT
A study on saving and reviving the last walled village in the urban core of Hong Kong
The project builds on the remains of Kowloons last walled city, Nga Tsin Wai Tsuen.
Unlike it´s more famous big brother, it´s low rise and airy in the middle of a high rise residential area.
The center of music is building on the structure that before its demolition had stood there for centuries,
but is extended so it now consists of two villages in one.
The first village draws directly from the old one, with 6 m wide buildings and a clearly defined border.
The smaller spaces hosts cafes, small shops and workshops, rehearsal rooms etc.
The new villlage, has some larger buildings and bigger spaces, suitable for hosting
concerts or performances, or music events with rooms for rehearsals, or exhibitions.
It´s a place to play, learn and discuss music, but also to listen, eat, gather, or just relax.
This is a space that defines its role of being important by being different,
not a superstructure, but a small and generous city within the city.
